Location:
Stay Awhile Lodge is located on a gravel road off HWY 19 in Cherokee, NC. All of the attractions of Cherokee are a short 5 to 10 minute drive away. So, running out to a restaurant, catching the historical outdoor play Unto These Hills, staying late to find that perfect souvenir from the many downtown shops, stepping back in time at the Oconaluftee Indian Village or the Mountain Farm Museum in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park are all easy to reach when ever you want. With all there is to do in Cherokee, don't forget that Bryson City is about 15 minutes down the scenic HWY 19 where the popular Great Smoky Mountain Rail Road is in the center of town surrounded by other restaurants and shops. The Deep Creek entrance to the GSMNP where tubing down a cool mountain stream is a favorite summer day experience of many visiting families is also in Bryson City. If your looking for a little more excitement, white water rafting on the Nantahala River or mountain biking at the famous Tsali Recreation Center are both about 25 to 30 minutes away. Also, further down the gravel road is a scenic community lake which is an excellent location for a cook out at the pavilion or to wet a fishing line. |
Exterior:
From the gravel road you pull on to a paved driveway that bends around up to the side of the cabin. The paved parking area is large enough to easily turn around most vehicles. A field stone walkway leads from the parking area, past a small deck off the living room, around to the front door. Here you have to decide whether to hurry into the cabin or step over to the enormous covered front porch to admire the open view of the Cherokee NC mountains. Caution, guest have been know to spend many hours out here relaxing in the fresh mountain air. Just how you choose to enjoy the fresh air is up to you. You can enjoy a morning cup of coffee in a comfortable chair as the sun rises over the mountains below. You can grill diner and eat at a table with a scenic mountain view. You can cuddle up next to someone on the outdoor sofa to share a glass of wine in front of a wood burning fireplace in the cool evening air. You can watch your favorite show on the satellite TV over the fire place. Another way to enjoy the fresh Cherokee mountain air is to sit in the warm massaging waters of the hot tub set on the more private side of the cabin. |
Entry Level:
As you step through the front door, the casual elegance of this cabin is immediately obvious. As you stand in the foyer a grand staircase crosses the wall in front of you. To the right, the foyer opens to a large luxurious living room. Natural wood walls and comfortable sofas around a stone gas log fireplace create a relaxing ambiance. This room may be relaxing and warm but the large satellite TV, full size card table, and wet bar make sure the entertainment can last as long as you. If you need to take five for some fresh air just step out through the glass doors to the deck. To the left from the foyer, the room opens to a spacious kitchen and dining area with cathedral ceiling and mountain views. The dining table is positioned to allow a view of the mountains through the glass door. The mountain views are still visible from the large open kitchen. Past the kitchen is a mud/ laundry room with a door out to the hot tub and grill. Across from the dining table and behind the stairs is a short hallway. The first door on the left is a half bath. The door on the right open to the master bedroom. A king size bed with fresh clean linens is the first to invite you in. A flat screen TV sets atop a dresser opposite the bed. The large master bath is a relaxing spa like experience itself; with a large jetted tub surrounded by natural wood walls and earth tone tiles. If you prefer the large separate shower is opposite the jetted tub.

Upper Level / Loft:
The stairs from the foyer end at a large loft area. Up here you can play a game of eight ball on a full size pool table with a view of the Cherokee mountains. To the right of the pool table a walkway guides you past a built in library to a comfortable reading nook with a large comfortable chair place next to a window to allow the natural light and scenic mountain view in. Also to the right of the loft area is the second bedroom. As you enter the bedroom, straight ahead is a private full bath. Down a short hall it opens to a queen size bed. Past the bed, french doors open out to a balcony where the mountain view fills the horizon. To the left of the loft area is the third bedroom with a queen size bed. The second door on the left side of the pool table is a full bath.
